Looks like fall, feels like fall, must be fall! I hope you’ve been able to take advantage of one of my favorite parts of this season in Chicago: our renowned farmers’ markets.

In IL-12, we’re lucky to have a number of fantastic farmer’s markets including the French Market at Nettelhorst, the Green City Market on Clark, the City of Chicago’s Division Street Market, and the Lincoln Park Farmers’ Market at Lincoln Park High School.

I hope you can find time to visit and get some great local produce, flowers, baked goods, and maybe a pumpkin or two!

Passage of our Landmark Clean Energy Bill

Last month we passed SB2408, a nation-leading comprehensive climate and equitable jobs bill, with the support of environmental, consumer and public health groups, the clean energy industry, and organized labor.

This legislation advances Illinois’ efforts to combat climate change by closing fossil fuel plants over a realistic but impactful timeline with significant interim goals over the next decade and a final deadline by 2045.

We are one step closer to creating a green energy future that protects consumers, preserves and creates jobs, enables equitable energy investment, and improves ethical standards across the industry.

Back to Business Grants

Last month, the state announced a new small business grant program for small businesses that mirrors the original back to business grants from earlier in the pandemic.

This program has a new, expanded funding source, a portal to track where your application is, and community liaisons to help answer any questions you may have.

TOILETRY DRIVE

Our office is collecting toiletries for Afghan refugees through October 15. Stop by and drop off any of the below items!

We’re also looking for (new) cold weather gear. We know that Chicago winters can be tough and want to make sure our new neighbors are fully prepared to stay warm!

Small Business Shoutout

Every month we highlight one small business in our district.

For October, we’re excited to feature Sugar Daddy Patisserie – a new addition to our lakefront community that will feature baked goods and drag shows.

Their grand opening is this Saturday, October 9th at 3243 N. Broadway.
